Let's Go On A Journey And Find Your DEI story

The hope of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) is that all individuals, regardless of their background, can have an equal opportunity to succeed and thrive.

Independent Queers

As an educator, activist, and former Broadway actor, Dr. Philip McAdoo has spent his life fighting for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth, families, and educators. Working to combat discrimination in personal spaces, professional places, and public platforms, Dr. McAdoo has always been passionate about equality for all.

What started as an exploration of LGBTQ teachers in the workplace eventually evolved into his dissertation. Independent Queers: LGBTQ Educators in Independent Schools Speak Out is a culmination of his work over the years. Containing over 35 distinguished voices in the space, Independent Queers is an ultimately searing exploration—featuring teachers of all grade levels—that will resonate for generations to come.

“In bringing us Independent Queers, Dr. McAdoo is offering us an unfiltered, clear look at the everyday lives of LGBTQ educators working in independent schools.  Just as each story is its own unique jewel, they also speak to a commonality of experiences that affirms the role that personal identity plays in our professional lives. I hope that the voices from this book echo down the school hallways and classrooms, athletic fields and lunch tables, offices and closets, to the ears of people – children and adults alike, LGBTQ and heterosexual alike – who need to hear the truth, wisdom, power, and vulnerability contained within each of them.”  – Rodney Glasgow, President of The Glasgow Group

Every Child Deserves…

Today, there are more than 400,000 children in our foster care system, with over 104,000 of them waiting for a permanent family. Often times LGBTQ  adoptive and foster parents are overlooked. Every Child Deserves… is the first in a series of books dedicated to honoring the lives and stories of youth in foster care and LGBTQ families. Written by Zaden and his two dads, this story is about the love, adventure and pure joy that every child deserves and gives voice, color and LIFE to the promise of foster care, LGBTQ families and the hope that Every Child Deserves…

Philip McAdoo’s colorful picture book story, Every Child Deserves, honors all children, but it is dedicated particularly to those children who are placed in foster homes, those children who never have the chance to ‘deserve’ more than food, shelter and education. This story is written by a young boy, Zaden, and his two Dads. It is written to speak out for those whose voices can’t be heard, for those children who deserve so much more, those children who deserve to live, have fun, learn, dream and feel loved each and every day of their lives. The author lists the very poignant simple things that many children (and adults, too) take for granted. Accompanied by vibrantly colorful illustrations, this story will appeal to young readers and adults alike. It addresses a very important issue: that placing a child in foster care is just not enough. Why? Because there is so much more to life and all children deserve the best. Well done! – Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers’ Favorite
